Guys its been another unproductive month B)

Okay, the title is bait,
I’m straight up reformating. Looky here, actual comic panels! Wowzers.

(i left my ipad at home and editing while in college, ill add when I get home )

I’m experimenting with more traditional comic formatting mixed with homestuck-styled dialouge-heavy scenes because honestly drawing full single a4 scenes is a lot of work? I do like making them but it just slows down progress a lot, especially since i KEEP REMAKING THEM.

I think I just…don’t like comics?
I’m not really having the most fun making it, especially planning for dialogue? They tend to not shut the fuck up about things so uh. Might go and redo that.
Again. I picked up (getting link, its the guide to webcomics by thestarfishface, read their webcomic!!!!!), it’s really good and you should check it out!!!!

So uh, new opening out maybe this weekend,(editing me: ahaha about that…) I have to decide on my final college project and I really don’t know what I want to do with myself? We had to pitch ideas to the class and the visual novel was the most popular so I might redesign the RD cast for that? No idea for the redesign contest, torn between idol and urban, the later what it was originally supposed to be, so maybe I’ll just go urban?

I also was thinking about making them Phantom Thieves- esque outfits? I did some doodles but I really don’t know if I want to commit to that yet.

The core of the project (at least mine) is meant to be expressions so I’ll mostly be working on illustrating expression portraits for them. Having it be interactive was also a popular idea, which I certainly don’t mind? A lot of the characters in the gallery currently are from a visual novel I was planning on making that I decided not to because I wasn't super passionate about the story.

So, instead of being productive, I’ve been watching a few things!

The Beastars finale came out! It…was okay. It felt a bit underwhelming at the time but now that it’s been a little while, I don’t think it’s as bad as I initially did? It did feel a bit rushed and overall, not that much really changed from the start but honestly that isn’t really the point. One person can’t change the entire world, but Legoshi leaves a profound impact on the people around him through his deep empathetic skills and determination to see himself in the shoes of the many different around him.

Straight up, a lizard chews through his shoulder, hands him an exploding tail and buries him under half a building, and Legoshi just brushes it off out of genuine concern for his attacker??? It’s kind of insane.

Some of the conflicts end a bit abruptly though?

I get having a B-plot but I wish it had a bit more of an impact on the A-plot? I dunno, holding the class play after the attack obviously has an symbolic impact but I wish it had been an onscreen one.

I think another episode with a very brief look into the impact of the events that happened would’ve been appreciated, the end credits were very quick and didn’t really conclude things for me…

Conclusion? I quite like the show overall!
It’s a different perspective on what a society could be like. I think the most obvious comparison would be to traditional gender roles, but I think Beastars is most enjoyable when you take the source material literally. They’re animals.

And I’m 40 quid richer for it so uh, yeah.

ALSO!!!!
Yahya is the biggest bum of all time. The Beastar is supposed to be a big deal right??? He has a fuckton of influence and just…doesn’t do anything outside beating up people in alleys??? I get that he’s meant to be kind of washed but like damn. If I had nickel for every washed horse-man I know, I’d have quite a few nickels. (watch bojack :) )

He deliberately endangered the life of a CHILD for what?????

Then again the Daydreamers don’t really appear in Radical Daydreamers, so uh. >_<

Oh, uh, I updated the about section so there’s actually something there? I realise I hadn’t actually written it because summarising is hard for a keyboard warrior such as myself.

Here you go :

I’d like to start using the status blog again to just share stupid doodles instead of social media like a normal person.

In other media related news…

I started watching Black Clover.
Asta is someone born without magic in a world where everyone is able to use it, but still has lofty dreams of becoming the Wizard King; an incredibly influential magic user whose role of guardian of the Clover Kingdom has been passed down since the first one quelled a mighty demon.

She asked if it was just My Hero Academia and honestly? That isn’t too far off? It’s kind of My Hero X Fairy Tail.

It has a standard high fantasy guild set-up, which I adore, because they’re always very cool. I have no idea if I’ve brought this up before but FairyTale is probably one of my favorite fictional worlds (separate from the actual story).

It probably has one of my favourite OST’s of any show as well. Erza Scarlet might just have one of the coolest anime powers ever, but it’s just SOOOOOO crude I couldn’t take it watching it anymore. Also the characters are just way too stupid in a very ooc way (out of character) far too often. It’s probably one of the worst cases of series actively nerfing character development. And I really really love a lot of the conflicts in the show. Tower of Heaven is such a cool concept and for the most part handled really well.

Maybe, and that’s a very large maybe, as an adult, I’d consider revisiting it, but seeing how I’m struggling with Eden’s Zero, it’s looking slim. The author is just a bit of a crude writer but it’s also a weird cultural thing? It’s just very not my humor. I don’t need everything I watch to be as overly serious and committed to plot development as JJK is but there are other jokes that can not be “wow boobs” and goes on for half the episode run time.

For example, Gordon!!! He’s awesome!!! He’s basically inaudible, and by that, I mean unless you have captions on, YOU WON’T KNOW WHAT HE’S SAYING, his mic is literally on 5% until the finale of “part 1” aka the first climax and it’s VERY funny.

Back to what I was actually talking about!!!!!!!!!

I do quite like Black Clover. It’s had quite a few twists and turns I didn’t expect because I thought I had figured it out pretty early on. It’s not been super duper subversive, but I’ve still been enjoying it.
There’s just one issue I’ve had and that was Noelle. I think she's way too annoying and whiney, but by the end of “part 1” I actually…kind of liked her?

I’ve been concluding recently that I don’t hate people (fictional) as much as I thought I did, and maybe part of being an adult is…not hating people for no reason????

NAAAAAAH.

(i think i need to make a post about every beef ive had with pngs. im so serious.)

Anyways, it was very cathartic to see her come into her own and embrace her mothers legacy that her siblings shunned her from her whole life. Watching a female character who can not only protect her friends but fight alongside them as a sick-ass valkyrie is incredibly refreshing for a female character (granted there are still tropes I'm less into in play, it isn't as excessive as most other instances thankfully).

She just spent a lot of her early scenes complaining about how weak she was, and then decides to do something and then not do it because she remembers that her siblings were mean. Inaction is one of the most frustrating character traits to me.
And maybe I kind of…saw myself in Noelle, somewhat?

A-anyways, I’m very proud of how far she’s come, it did make me a bit emotional watching her finally overcome her internal struggle with years of family trauma. Also the fact that her brother tried to kill her like 2 weeks before she went sicko mode and had to rescue them, and uh.
Not to be an asshole, Fuck them? Just saying if my siblings berated my existence my entire life, tried to kill me and then lost a fight in a single attack to a psuedo-side character, I would’ve just left them to it. (Kidding)

All in all, if you like high fantasy, you’ll probably enjoy it as well. I have no idea if it’s finished or not yet, I’m taking a break because I got through about 120 episodes in 1 ½ weeks so, yeah, a lil burnt out. Also, not as interested in the conflict being set up right now, but I’ll give it some time to develop because, again, a bit burnt out.

Also, at least the anime came out in 2020, which is super surprising to me? I thought it was a pretty old show, like 2016-ish, unless netflix is stinky (always true) and lying about it? I can’t be asked to look it up.

OKAY!!!! Final film thing!!!!!

I watched the Rose of Versailles!!!!

For the uninformed, it's about the french revolution and all that.
I, uh, wasn’t expecting it to be a musical? I don’t know shit about anything so it was pretty interesting. I liked the songs, the MV’s were very pretty, again, I wasn't expecting them to be there. It kind of made me think of how good the Miraculous Ladybug movie could have been, but the songs in that movie suck ass. I stopped watching the show a while ago because, well, I’m an adult woman, but a few years ago, I did make my friend group watch it with me on my birthday.
Ironically.

Of course.

Marienette might be one of the most dislikable protagonists of all time. I can’t even say Adrien is the only good thing about it, because theres Chloe (shoutout to the writer of the show saying people cant be redeemed or ever change because she’s just a bad person, despite her traumatic life under the immense pressure of her family and showing signs of becoming a better person unlike Felix, whose actually just evil for no reason. Insane. Chloe truly is the one character authors have as a punching bag. )

Anyways if Adrien crashes out (something about his supervillian dad he didn’t know was a supervillian dying horrifically and not being told about it) I WILL be there. He has the same VA as Goro Akechi from Persona 5, which is something someone told me one of those things I felt really dumb for not realising sooner; he has a VERY recognisable voice.

…I feel like “Did you know these characters share a voice actor? I didnt!” has to be a recurring segment on the blog.

It keeps happening.

I did also watch A Cat’s Return, which is a Ghibli movie. I don’t have a crazy amount to say about it? I did enjoy it.

It’s about a girl who saves a cat and finds out they have an entire cat universe, then she gets kidnapped, turns into a cat and has to be rescued by more cats otherwise she’ll be stuck as a cat forever.

yeah.

I feel like this is probably surprising to a lot of people but I’ve not seen that many Studio Ghibli movies, as in, I’ve seen less than 5.

I’ve uh, never seen My Neighbor Totoro.

It’s not that I’m not interested, but I tend to write/draw when I’m watching things so they kind of become more background noise, so I REALLY want to make sure I’m paying attention to all the details when I’m watching one.

Maybe I’ll do some more of that.

Uh, song recommend?:

I really like Ponyo. It has a lot of influence on me as someone who really likes night scenes and water. full OST
